These are dreams of memories
Not quite glassy
But cracked in their own ways
Unmelted by the humidity of this basement library
Foggied in the saltwater streaks across the clean sky
Rains have come so many times to wipe them away
And they paint themselves again
Saline fingerprints that overwork the raindrops
In a nighttime fog
The coolness of the ocean becomes bright
Moons are queens
Urging forward armies of waves
To afflict the ears with remembrance
To bring the night to love prematurely
Before the sun can break the horizon
My chest becomes a heaving pillow
For a sighing worried pretty
head of a princess
Full of compromises
And my heart races in my mind
But only silence beats in her ear.
