madlib easily.
kanye's beats are too simple drum wise and sample wise compared to madlib's depth in the boom bap.
Chuck D accidently said it best when he said West just speeds up old records. Dope beats none the less, but madlib is much more of a composer.

Madlib

But I don't know the first damn thing about Kanye. He makes beats for like Jay-Z right? And other guys with dumb names who can't rap?

I'm not a huge Madlib fan but the Lootpack record is dope. And most of Madvillian is dope.

I think I heard a Kanye track at a strip club last weekend. In context it wasn't so bad.

how many people who vote Madlib arent whiny pseudo-backpacking faggots who were on Kanye's jock before his videos started getting heavy rotation

you're all obviously too cool for the rest of us.

what the fuck is pseudo-backpacking? shit doesn't even make sense.

anyway, i voted for madlib. i'll vote for kanye once he drops a reggae mixtape, produces a whole LP for percee p, develops alter egos, sends mf doom 150 beats (and does a dope album with him), and laces numerous 12's from here to the UK all within the span of a year or two. as for now the mostly-skippable college dropout (are those fucking skits even remotely listenable/funny at this point?) and the few guest productions he's done aren't fuckin with madlib's near-decade long catalog.

Madlib no doubt.

Kanye's style is getting played out. He'll soon be as predictable as The Neptunes.

Madlib keeps things fresh his production never really sounds the same.

if this is straight up artist to artist, madlib is a better producer, but kanye whoops the shit out of madlib the rapper, so that makes it kanye by a nose

god thank you... I was in shock at some of the statements going on.

Where the hell is all the Kanye hate coming from?
And please...that whole "all he does is speed up shit" line is so played out...and if you listen to his beats, you'll know that's not true. If you could find the original samples for all your favorite producers, I'm sure you'd be heartbroken on a few tracks.

I'll admit his drum programming is a bit weak at times, but his chops and ear for samples and basslines are dope (Although, he is using a lot of musicians now, so it's hard to discern how much is directly him and how much is John Legend/Miri Ben Ari/whoever else is in the studio). And he definitely is killing Madlib as a rapper.

Why wouldn't Kanye fans know about Madlib shit? I...just...don't understand some of the comments....
Like I quoted from Remo, Madlib is hit or miss. Yes, he does have millions of beats and produces for tons of people and puts in hella work, but I'm just flat out NOT feeling a lot of those beats.
And KaeoFLUX, I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but I am shocked by every one of your posts.

i apologize for this stupid statement. i was in a big time rush...

but anyhow, i have listened to madlib's albums.. lookpack one, madvillian...

i would never even listen to a dudley perkins , wildchild (i heard that knick knack joint that was dope , but mainly cuz of percee p) or medaphoar.

and madvillian, yeah it was a hot album, but only cuz mf doom was on it, and that wasn't even his best performance. those beats are pretty unbearable, except a few... i dont know kanye's production is much better. the joints he produced on scarfaces, jay-z albums, twista.

the only thing i got to say to madlib is that if he puts out that much product, why waste in on such shitty artists (for the most part all the artists over his beats are crappy)...hopefully that percee p album will be ill as fuck and change my mind..i got high hopes.

if u think all kanye does is loop records and put on simple drums u are shortchanging exactly how good kanye is.

i'd like to see kanye make something remotely close to yesterdays new quintet.
would kanye be as successful as he is without a lot of money backing him to clear these samples?
he'is leaps and bounds a better mc though.

i think its alot funnier watching these cats play themselves the fuck out by spitting that when half of their favorite records were likely produced the same way

producers dont clear samples....mc's and labels usually do from what i understand. for evidence of kanye's dopeness check an instrumental of "this way". and for thinking kanye is a better rapper than producer , well, either you dont listen to his music or you're a crackhead.

i voted for madlib because as a producer he digs waaaaaay deeper for his samples than kanye does as of right now. the reason so many people understimate kanye saying that he "just speeds up songs" is because so many of his samples come from familiar, easy to find records. madlib uses the exact same techniques as kanye in making beats but uses records that are much more rare and hard to find. this is why madlib comes so fresh and new all the time, because for many listeners it is the very first time that they have heard those sounds.

but in all honesty this poll is bullshit. you cant compare an up and coming producer with one who has been around for as long as madlib has. who is better, albert pujols or barry bonds? get the fuck out of here with that, such comparisons cant be made for at least another 15 years. we have to sit and watch kanye develop like madlib has had the luxury to do. my biggest fear with kanye is that his early success will cause him to stop exploring as a beatmaker and keep his same style going (which is getting old) and he'll get stale, a la the neptunes. kanye just needs a deeper collection of wax.

1.) you're a newjack newbie
2.) kanye has been around since 1996 (Grav), but you wouldn't know that cuz you're a newjack newbie. matter of fact, he's been around almost longer than madlib.
3.) bonds is better.
4.) don't grow balls on your 2nd post.
5.) get your facts straight and then sign up under a new name. we hate you already!

i think madlb is better but i dont really think this has anything to do with it.

kanye is very good but i just prefer madlibs style.
madlib sounds more boom bap to me and when he loops up his stuff half the time they sound looser (i cant think of a better way to describe it) and more like a new composition than just a straight sample with drums tacked on (check c'mon feet vs magic chef)
