Pacquiao vs. Bradley in June.

By Dan Rafael

Manny Pacquiao has agreed to terms to defend his welterweight title against junior welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley Jr. on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Michael Koncz, Pacquiao's adviser, told ESPN.com on Monday.

The Bradley side still needs to finalize its deal with promoter Top Rank.

"From our end, the fight is done," Koncz said. "I just got off the phone with (Top Rank's) Bob Arum and Manny, so we're done. I don't assume there will be a problem from the Bradley side. We came to terms with Top Rank on the fight and Manny has approved everything. This morning I had a number of conversations with Bob negotiating the June 9 fight and I relayed everything to Manny."

Top Rank president Todd duBoef told ESPN.com that he is still working to finalize Bradley's end of the deal.

"We are going to be having further conversations with Bradley and his management early this week and hopefully finalize the deal," duBoef said. "But the truth is my (promotional) agreement with Bradley lays out certain parameters for a Pacquiao fight, so there is a framework already."

The hopes for a long-anticipated Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight ended last week when, after the sides once again did not come to terms, Mayweather announced he would challenge junior middleweight titlist Miguel Cotto on May 5. Cotto had also been in the running to face Pacquiao in a rematch, but Pacquiao and Cotto could not agree on the weight for the fight. Pacquiao wanted the 147-pound welterweight limit, which Cotto said was too low for him, and he accepted a deal from Mayweather.

The other names in the running to face Pacquiao in the pay-per-view fight were junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson and Juan Manuel Marquez, who is 0-2-1 in three incredibly close and exciting fights with Pacquiao, including a majority decision loss to him in November.

Bradley would move up in weight to challenge Pacquiao for his title.

"We've been talking about this for over a month and we always had a Plan B in case Mayweather didn't happen," Koncz said. "Last time I went to the Philippines, I took Manny tapes of all of the opponents we were talking about and he watched them with his wife, Jinkee. Bradley was one of them, as everybody knows."

There is a chance Marquez will fight Peterson next, with the winner of that bout getting a fall match against Pacquiao if a Mayweather fight still is not made.

Koncz flew to San Antonio last weekend to meet with Arum, who was there promoting Saturday night's Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Marco Antonio Rubio middleweight title fight at the Alamodome, about the Bradley fight. Cameron Dunkin, Bradley's co-manager, was also in San Antonio and met with Arum.

Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs), 28, of Palm Springs, Calif., does not have the kind of profile as the other opponents who were in the running, although he is widely considered one of the top 10 fighters in the world even though his most recent fights have not been hits.

Thirteen months ago, he won a sloppy, head butt-induced 10th-round technical decision in a heavily hyped junior welterweight unification fight against Devon Alexander. It did poorly at the gate and did not come close to the ratings expectations HBO had hoped it would achieve, despite spending millions on the fight and its marketing.

Then Bradley rejected a July fight he had called for with Amir Khan to further unify the 140-pound division, even though Khan, who brought far more economic muscle to the fight, offered him a 50-50 deal.

Bradley then split with co-promoters Gary Shaw and Ken Thompson and, despite litigation, signed with Top Rank, knowing a Pacquiao fight was possible.

Top Rank gave Bradley the high-profile co-feature slot on the Pacquiao-Marquez III pay-per-view card in November. Bradley stopped faded former lightweight champion Joel Casamayor in the eighth round of an uncompetitive, foul-filled fight.

But Bradley is in his prime, fast and experienced against good opponents, and he could give 33-year-old Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs) a competitive fight.

"Bradley is a young, undefeated fighter who deserves a chance," Koncz said. "Manny is excited. Until we name an opponent, boxing is out of Manny's mind. He's busy working in (the Filipino) congress. But he gets interested in boxing again when he has an opponent and a fight. Now we know we have a date (and) an opponent and he's excited."

Koncz, who lives in Southern California, said he is flying to the Philippines on Tuesday night to meet with Pacquiao and go over logistics for the media tour for the fight.

I'm excited for this one. Should be solid. Pac Man will take the decision, but it'll be entertaining at least.

I'm not really liking what I've seen out of Pac in his last 2 fights. His legs don't seem to be there like they once were. So yeah, this could turn out to be a very interesting fight.

Top Rank keeps the money in-house with the Pacquiao/Bradley matchup (no split with any other promotional companies). Sucks for everybody else that wants to see Mayweather/Pacquiao, but it's business as usual over everything in boxing.

Bradley is so boring to watch fight BTW. Fight should be janky as fuck.

Right before the fight spitting in Wlad's face.
Image

Turned out to be a pretty good fight overall and I was impressed with Chisora's
performance. He lost, but he won at least 3 or 4 rounds and made a lot of the rounds he lost pretty competitive. It should be known however that after the fight he almost got in a fight with Wlad, and then shit really erupted afterwards when he saw David Haye and threatened to shoot him before bloodying up his trainer and coming to blows with Haye himself at the post fight press conference. Hopefully some video will surface soon. I'm looking forward to SHO's triple header tonight.

Chisora is a bitch. I watched the fight. He acted like a bitch before and after the fight. Too bad he was in the ring with the only two guys in boxing that wouldn't beat the shit out him postfight.

He didn't fight like a bitch. He may be a no class dirtbag but he's no bitch. David Haye is a bitch.

Chris Mannix from SI just uploaded his blog about the fight and brawl:

http://mma-boxing.si.com/2012/02/18/kli ... -the-show/

Three thoughts from Vitali Klitschkoג€™s unanimous decision win over Dereck Chisora:

Letג€™s start with the brawl. Because this will be all over YouTube, you know, now. During the post-fight press conference David Haye, who was attending the fight as a commentator for a British outlet, started barking at Klitschko. He demanded a fight. Klitschkoג€™s manager, Bernd Boente, told Haye unequivocally, ג€œYouג€™re out. You canג€™t talk your way into this fight.ג€ After a few minutes, Chisora ג€” who Haye has openly criticized ג€” got involved. Chisora made fun of Hayeג€™s toe. Haye made fun of Chisoraג€™s record. Chisora challenged Haye to fight him. Haye said he would knock him out. Chisora left the dais and told Haye to say it to his face. Haye drilled him with an elbow to the chops.

From there, it was bedlam. Haye hit Chisora. Chisora hit Haye. Haye hit Chisoraג€™s trainer, Don Charles. Someone hit Hayeג€™s trainer, Adam Booth, who was cut at the top of his forehead. Haye swung a tripod at one of Chisoraג€™s friends. After a few minutes of brawling, Haye left, and Chisora told Booth, ג€œDavid is going to fight me or Iג€™m going to shoot him. Iג€™m going to shoot him in the street. Iג€™ll burn him.ג€

All this amused the Klitschkoג€™s, who stayed out of the fray. Wladimir stood on a chair, laughing. Vitali shook his head and left the room. Boente suggested that Haye and Chisora fight, with the winner earning a shot at Vitaliג€™s WBC heavyweight title belt. Later, a handful of police cars were spotted outside the building, waiting, I was told, for Chisora. All in all, a wild ending to the night.

Chisora sure makes things interesting. One day after slapping Klitschko at the weigh-in ג€” a shot he says Chisora threw because, Chisora said, he promised his mother that when he was face-to-face with a Klitschko he would slap one ג€” Chisora nearly came to blows with Wladimir Klitschko in his dressing room. Sources say Wladimir, who was in the room inspecting Chisoraג€™s hand wraps, as he often does in Vitaliג€™s fights, took issue with the way Chisora was wrapping his hands, prompting Chisora to rip his wraps off and threaten not to fight. When he finally did get in the ring, Chisora spit water in Wladimirג€™s face during introductions. ג€œThe hardest thing I have ever done,ג€ Wladimir told me later, ג€œwas not break his face.ג€

The Klitschkoג€™s have dealt with trash talkers before, but Chisoraג€™s behavior clearly struck a nerve. ג€œI have big respect for him as a fighter,ג€ Vitali said, ג€œbut no respect for him as a human.ג€

Oh yeah, there was a fight. Chisora talked tough but like most of Vitaliג€™s opponents ג€” Klitschko is now 9-0 since coming out of retirement in 2008 ג€” he didnג€™t measure up. Chisora was aggressive early, taking the fight to Vitali, who struggled throwing his jab due to an arm/hand injury he suffered in the fourth round. Still, Vitali was never in trouble, popping right hands off Chisoraג€™s head and peppering him with combinations. It wasnג€™t an A+ performance but even Chisora admitted after the fight Vitali had gotten the job done.

PEACE

Man, I just finished watching the Cloud fight from Saturday. 116-110 CLOUD?!?!?! This is what, the third terrible televised decision to come out of the state in the past three months? These Texas judges are on some wild-west-sheriff's-department-level corruption. It's fucking bullshit. The leagues need to seriously stop sanctioning fights there.

I can only imagine what's going to happen in the Williams fight.

Fuck Texas.

like... a super-heavyweight against a fucking cruiserweight. Who thought this was a good idea? The fight consisted entirely of Mormeck giving gayboy hugs and covering his head with his arms. It's shit like this mixed with Haye and Chisora's antics as to why this division is a fucking joke. It's not even like this was just a filler bout and we have some potential super fight to look forward to. This is it. This is all we're gonna have for the next five years.

The USA needs some boxing program where they take all the hyper-athletic football players who aren't going to make the cut for the NFL and train the fuck out of them for 5 years.

Make it happen Obama. 2012. Yes we can and shit.

Seth Mitchell maybe? played for the spartans or something until he got a knee injury and then took up boxing. Recently had a good showing.

<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KF--X7arovg?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KF--X7arovg?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Then there is Deontay Wilder who took home bronze in the olympics for the USA. He's tall and appears to have good power but don't let his record fool you, he has fought the absolute shittiest competition I have ever seen. I know promoters love to build hype by having guys get in there and get a bunch of early KO's on their record but if you want to laugh look at his resume on Boxrec.

<object width="480" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1XeH5v6Al0c?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1XeH5v6Al0c?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

There is also some program or something similar to what you were talking about I think called the heavyweight factory I think, but they have yet to show anything of promise that I have heard of anyways. There have been a lot of other attempts by ex football players to take up pro boxing careers but it never ends well for them. It takes a certain personality and more than just raw athleticism to become the HW champ. You may not like the Klitschkos but you have to give it up, they're not just big, they are in tremendous shape, they fight with serious ring intelligence, and they are 100% focused at all times. They may not be exciting to watch, and their opponents may not be that great, but they have dominated every available opponent across the globe and captured every recognized belt. The Klitschko brothers are a lot better than most Americans, even today, are willing to admit. It's gonna take way more than taking away somebodies football and handing them a pair of boxing gloves to remedy this situation. There has to be some kids out there that really want to be the heavyweight champ of the world and are training their asses of in the gym right and blessed with all the required tools.

Fortunately for me I don't really get the fascination with Heavyweights anyways. I always thought welterweight to middleweight were generally more exciting when you factor in the increased speed, punch output and deeper talent pools.
