The Jones/Karass fight was really fun to watch. Jones fought a damn good fight and I'm excited to see where he goes from here. Personally, I'd have only given Karass 2 rounds, but dude is definitely one tough S.O.B.

The 24-year-old Rios of Oxnard, Calif., has never met a fighter as talented as the power punching 32-year-old champion Acosta from Caracas, Venezuela. A native of Texas, Rios is currently working with Antonio Margaritoג€™s trainer Robert Garcia and had nearly 275 amateur fights under his belt before making his pro debut in July of 2004.

Acosta is riding a 19-fight winning streak and has not tasted defeat since 2003. He won his world championship belt with a 12-round split decision over Paulus Moses last May. In his last fight he knocked out Armando Cordoba in the first round. He first made a name for himself in 2009 when he upset Urbano Antillon by ninth-round TKO to capture the interim WBA lightweight title.

He is currently training at the ג€œKnockout Drugs Gymג€ in Caracas and has been sparring with Fernando Zuniga, Marco Avendano, and Jabar Parra. Acosta said he will adjust to whatever style Rios brings to the ring. ג€œI think Rios is a strong fighter and he comes forward. Iג€™ve been preparing for that ג€“ I plan to box him, take him into the late rounds and break him down. My sparring partners have been coming forward like him, so I can slip the punches ג€“ not get hit, and do the damage.ג€

He added: ג€œIג€™m going to defend my title and beat Brandon Rios on his home turf.ג€

Rios Wins WBA Title With Devastating TKO Victory Over Acosta In 10th

They say styles make fights, and no two styles meshed better on Saturday night than Brandon Riosג€™ full steam ahead, take no prisoners style Vs. Miguel Acostaג€™s constant movement, sharpshooting technique. Unfortunately, one of them wouldnג€™t reign supreme. At The Pearl inside of The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, Brandon Rios (27-0-1, 20 KOs) weathered an early boxing clinic to walk down Miguel Acosta (28-4-2) and score an emphatic 10th round TKO victory to claim the WBA lightweight title and, more importantly, climb the ladder in the 135 lbs division.

But it certainly wasnג€™t an easy fight.

For four rounds, Rios was tarred and feathered by Acosta, who made him look foolish with his movement and pinpoint accuracy. Several times Rios looked as if he was completely clueless when having to deal with Acostaג€™s changes in directions. Every time he got close, he got tagged. But his trainer Robert Garcia put the bug in his ear to close the distance and everything changed. The heavy handed fighter with the nickname ג€œBam Bamג€ chased down his prey and scored a knockdown in the sixth round with a left hook than a jab, which turned the tide. Acosta tried to scamper away in round seven, but Rios would not be denied on this night. In round eight, Rios cornered Acosta yet again and sent the Venezuelan sprawling to the canvas with a big left hand.

The fight was eerily reminiscent of Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margaritoג€™s 2008 war where Cottoג€™s movement put him ahead early but he would be walked down by the stronger Mexican in the late rounds before being stopped in round 11. Acosta tried to fight his way back into the bout in the 9th round as the two brawled along the ropes and in close quarters but Acostaג€™s flame was flickering badly and all Rios had to do was blow it out. In the 10th round, Rios gave chase but Acosta wanted no parts of phone booth action. Rios suckered his foe in by eating a big shot and then proceeded to steamroll Acosta with a barrage of brutal power shots before the former champion slumped to the mat and referee Joe Cortez stopped the fight at the 1:14 mark.

I'm late on this but did anybody watch ESPN Friday Night Fights last week? I recorded it and just watched the undercard fight now, but wow...

It was a Russian vs. a South African, Maxim Vlasov vs. Isaac Chilemba in a Super-Middleweight bout. Vlasov was going in undefeated and considered the favorite. Chilemba had suffered one loss going in. Long story short it was an incredible fight, very competetive, lots of action. Chilemba was knocked down twice in the 8th but got up and finished the round (and the fight) very strong. He ended up winning by unanimous decision.

This was a perfect example of why the Super-Middleweight division is my favorite to watch and follow in all of boxing. Here you see incredible talent from almost every part of the world and 9 out of 10 fights are action packed. Plus, because of their size and conditioning, many of these guys have lots of power and great chins. The lighter divisions are more popular these days (partially because of all the names floating around down there), but due to the combination of good pacing and good power and the diversity of styles you get to witness, Super-Middleweight is easily my favorite.

So Saul "Canelo" Alvarez(you probably remember him as the red headed Mexican dude) is fighting Matthew Hatton(not to be confused with the far more accomplished Ricky Hatton) for a vacant 154lb WBC title this weekend. This is the WBC at it's fucking worst. Neither of these guys are legitimately ranked within the top ten of their respective weight classes (Hatton is moving up in weight btw) and yet all Oscar has to do is pull out his billfold and purchase a belt for his new cash cow?

FUCK THE WBC.

Question is, who is gonna have the nuts to travel to Mexico and give Angulo his shot?

James Kirkland is out of jail and fighting on the undercard but I don't think it's televised.
