Barring a catastrophic failure by the Giants, or an incredible turnaround by the Pirates, he's gonna win it.

Blue Jays’ shortstop Yunel Escobar could face disciplinary action after photographs surfaced showing the 29-year-old Cuban on the field at Rogers Centre with a homophobic slur written under his eyes.

Escobar, who has been with the Jays since 2010, played Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with the Spanish words “TU ERE MARICON” written on an eyeblack sticker, a black patch baseball players wear under their eyes to reduce the sun’s glare.

The phrase’s most common English translation is “You are a faggot.” Other translations are less explicitly homophobic, but more of an emasculating insult.

I like how he left the "s" off "eres", but not the "n" off "maricon". Cubans don't finish their words for shit.

Their refusal to fold is laudable, certainly, and their re-admittance to the wild-card shuffle should invigorate fan bases that were ruing September. And that's about the only positive thing baseball gets from this watered-down race that rewards the pedestrian and manufactures and force-feeds drama where it need not be.

i dont like the second wild card, but i think this mlb season has a more widespread amount of teams that are competitive, or i guess you could also say there are more teams that are medicore, in the NL at least there is no clear favorite, more teams have a real chance of going to the WS, so i think that makes the season more exciting, it gives more teams the neccessity to keep playing hard the whole year, the motivation for more teams to keep their players instead of trading them away to teh yankees, so for this year at least, i think its good

Even if the Phillies somehow snuck into the playoffs I'd still be against the second wild card.
Shit is fucking beyond dumb, b.

Phillies beat the best all month and then lose to the absolute worst. Pretty much defines the season. That Houston series is the reason the Phillies play golf in a few weeks.

A great story about a career minor leaguer. Not much more than the profile of a guy who has had a few fleeting brushes with fame, but its really interesting nonetheless.

Do you think they'll do Mikey Trout dirt and give it to Dirt...? It's interesting one dude is making his way in and one dude is three sheets to the wind... How do you suppose this will play out... Perhaps Mr. Tiger Milk will spoil both?

Miggy and Braun I think get MVP. Trout is worthy of it, but voters have short memories and its all about recent trends. Miggy has destroyed everything this month.

if trout doesn't win mvp, it will be the biggest mvp-related injustice since justin morneau won mvp

actually it'd be even worse, b/c clearly trout is literally better at everything cabrera does BUT homeruns. as much as i'm a romantic about the triple crown it still counts rbis and they are especially worthless in a debate between a leadoff hitter and a clean-up hitter

anyway, came here to post this:

in the doubleheader (both wins) ichiro not only made a great catch with the bases loaded to preserve the win in the field for pettitte, but also put up these numbers over both games:

7 hits in 8 at-bats. 2 doubles. 2 runs. 1 rbi. 4 stolen bases. .875/.875/1.125. 559 wrc+

Voters still might hold the ped thing over braun. He's having a great year but Posey has it locked up at this point.

Cabrera has been getting lots of press momentum as of late. So it wouldn't surprise me if he steals some votes since trout been in a little slump. But he's got this locked up

i can only hope the tigers miss the playoffs b/c the dumb voters who would pick miggy over trout b/c of more rbis (and more homers without taking into consideration trout has way more stolen bases/1st to 3rds/2nd to homes/fielding influence and mastery/etc.) would pick trout over miggy if the tigers miss the playoffs.

Nice to see Howard come through last night. We're not going to make the playoffs but its nice to see this team have some life again.

I don't see Miggy beating Trout for MVP. Trout's having a historic season and he has the narrative behind him just as much as Cabrera. Although if he wins the triple crown the BBWAA will be falling all over themselves to suck his dick.
Still think NL should go to Braun, especially with the Brewers still in contention. Posey is closing the gap but he might not even be the best catcher on a contender this year, he's done nothing to separate himself from Yadier.

I agree Trout should win it. Imagine if he had another month to his numbers? But I think the voters are fags for the most part and might give it to Migs, especially if the triple crown happens.

Many voters are just blind. They don't see things like you'd expect and it's as simple as.

Avg .327
HR 27
RBI 77
Runs 118
SB 46

Avg .333
HR 41
RBI 130
Runs 101
SB 4

The Miggy argument. Plays in a park that limits him at least 10-12 HR a year.

Has never hit more than 38 HR in a season. Is currently leading the league in BA and RBI and is one 1 HR away from triple crown. Plus his team is still in it, like the Angels. Prince has definitely helped his numbers though.

Posey is putting up outstanding numbers but I still think Braun and McClutch deserve it more than him. It's a shame Pitt crumbled because it will taint his voting numbers.

I believe the AL MVP voting will go like this considering everything stays its course for the final weeks.

1. Miggy
2. Trout
3. Hamiltion

NL

1. Braun
2. Posey
3. McClutch

I'm sure that Tiger Stadium takes away a few homeruns but 10-12 is way too high.
Not to mention he'd be 3rd in homeruns if Joey Bats didn't get injured.

Here's all of Cabrera's homeruns this year mapped over Comerica Park (only four of his homeruns elsewhere wouldn't have been homeruns in Comerica)
http://hittrackeronline.com/detail2.php ... ype=hitter

Here's all of Hamilton's mapped over Comerica (he loses 7 homeruns).
http://hittrackeronline.com/detail2.php ... ype=hitter

Hamilton is tied for first in the AL with 14 "No Doubt" homeruns, while Cabrera has 9.
Cabrera is 1st in the AL with 14 "just enough" homeruns, while Hamilton has 12.
Cabrera is also 1st in the AL in "Lucky Homers" with 6, Hamilton isn't even on the list (meaning he has zero).

http://hittrackeronline.com/index.php

There's been 148 homeruns this year in Comerica and 178 in the Rangers Ballpark. They are roughly on opposite sides of the spectrum as far as parks go, so a crude way to look at it is to split the difference and say a neutral park would give up 163 homeruns....that's 15 homeruns that Comerica has robbed hitters of all year and that's divided among thousands of atbats and hundreds of players.
So basically, park factor is waaaay overrated. A good power hitter is a good power hitter regardless of where they play.

I bet if Miggy continues this pace and gets the triple crown he will win. Trout is truly deserving of it, but I'm telling you voters think current.

as far as miggy supporters go, you can't discount dave cameron's article that appeared on espn not too long ago about high-leverage/mid-leverage/low-leverage situations...trout's numbers in those situations are like .240/.290/.350 and miggy's are like .330/.330/.330 (total paraphrase/approximation, go google his article for details, but basically miggy is more "clutch")

im not a miggy supporter. don't be a selective reader. i'm giving my opinion/prediction. if we all just agreed trout will get this (not should get this), the thread itself would be like an ardamus post.

clutch is a myth perpetrated by shitty writers without anything of substance to write about.
Did his article account for all the times that Trout's defense came up in "clutch" situations?

If he wins the triple crown that has to say something. When was the last time that happened the 60s?
